The King is dead.

I have wished I was old enough to enjoy MJ’s music at his prime. I remember having goosebumps all over my body when I saw a clip of his Budapest concert in the 1990’s. I have never seen that big of a crowd before, and they would scream their lungs out at his mere presence.

Bad press has what defined MJ in his last years but his music influence has gone and will always go beyond that.

I join the world as we say goodbye to one of the greatest performers ever.

Revenge of the Fallen

Just saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! Went to Robinson’s Galleria and saw the awesomeness with my cousin. She’s visiting from Naga so as usual I’m the designated tour guide.

Back to Transformers, it’s great! There’s a tendency to get a headache with all that machine crunching and smashing that goes on for 2 and a half hours, though. Nevermind that! It’s the only movie worth watching this week, anyway. Go see it. Megan Fox is super hot I will admit, although she’s such a turn-off on some of her interviews.

Fail

So right now people around the world know of what has become of the Orlando Magic during the 2009 NBA Finals:

orlando-magic-fail

And the bad news didn’t end there. San Sebastian College also weren’t able to clinch the title at the Shakey’s V-League Finals. So you could imagine how disappointed I was last week with these two teams. Losing is such a bitch.

A bit of good news: the TV in my room is fixed! Now my life is slowly returning to normal. For a moment I didn’t know what’s happening around the world except for Internet RSS news feeds. Ok, great, hoping for a good week ahead. Roland Garros starts on the 22nd and Transformers: Revenge of the fallen - which I can’t wait to see - is opening on the 24th. At least there’s something to look forward to. :)

Internetz and coffee

Went to the office yesterday after lunch and then decided to hang out at a coffee shop over at The Fort. Was there the whole afternoon just leeching free Wifi at ArAma. Pretty fast! Perfect spot to chill and brainstorm. :)

And because I was there I wasn’t able to watch the live semis match between FEU and UST. I don’t really make an effort to watch live games at the venue itself unless it’s SSC playing, but the FEU vs UST was kinda exciting, too. I also won’t be able to see the delayed telecast later coz I’ll be in Ortigas. Boo. Nevermind. SSC is in the finals - that’s all that matters. :)

Meanwhile, I shall watch Game 3 of the NBA finals now. Will be back later to give updates.

Edit (June 11):

Yay! Orlando Magic bounces back with a 4-point lead victory over the Los Angeles Lakers during Game 3 of the NBA Finals! I was so worried they’d be down 3-0 but Magic stepped it up. :) Their defense was good and the offense was so much better this time. 5 of the players was in double figures, so that was great.

Meanwhile, the Shakey’s V-League finals game will be happening tomorrow with the UST facing San Sebastian College (4pm). Exciting match. UST was able to defeat SSC during their last two meetings but the latter is hoping they can have their revenge in the finals. I also like UST but I’m rooting for SSC this time.

FEU will battle Adamson University to clinch the 3rd spot (2pm).

Oops, you did it again

Don’t you just hate it when people leave you hanging and waste your time in the process? I do.

He shuts down under pressure and won’t give a fuck about anything. It’s frustrating and annoying. And I’m fed up of all the excuses, damn it.

Is it really that hard to compose an e-mail or even a text message telling people that you haven’t been erased from the face of the planet? Is it that hard to understand that when someone texts you a question you’re expected to reply back? What’s fucking wrong with these people?

Anyway, on the brighter side, San Sebastian College is in the finals of the Shakey’s V-League. They will be facing the winner of the semis match between FEU and UST (Game 3, June 9, 4pm). I would want a UST-SSC finals coz I think it would be more exciting. UST is definitely more challenging for SSC than FEU.

Another good news: The Fed has won French Open grabbing his 14th title. I haven’t been able to watch the French Open at all but it’s okay. At least Nadal was out of the picture. Didn’t even reach the finals round.

Hell-oh

HI. I noticed I have been neglecting this blog for over a week now. Last week was super busy with meetings and other stuff that I barely had time to sleep. But now it’s back to normal! I can resume netwhoring all day long. LOL.

Btw, I saw the game between Orlando and LA yesterday. Was uber excited about it ’til Orlando decided to trail behind by more that 10 points by the end of the 2nd quarter. They weren’t able to recover after that. WTF. Is it obvious (given my previous post and Facebook shoutouts) that I don’t like the Lakers, or more specifically Kobe Bryant? Orlando may have lost the game by a shameful 25 points, but I would cheer for any team with 1 point against LA at any given time.

Nearing the finals

NBA Playoffs

As you all know, Los Angeles and Denver are fighting for the NBA Western Conference finals. Game 1 was a disappointment on the part of Denver as the Lakers were able to win despite the former’s lead early on in the game. That depressing inbound pass by the Nuggets during the last minutes did it for them. I couldn’t believe how lame that pass was.

But it’s time to put Game 1 behind! I woke up early yesterday because I was all set up to watch Game 2. The Lakers were able to pull away with 14 points but during the 4th Quarter, the Nuggets inched closer and eventually won the game by 3 points! Whew! Denver will have home advantage in Game 3 and of course, I expect them to win that. :)

Shakey’s V-Leage Quarterfinals

I was meaning to post the game schedule (live and telecast) of the ongoing Shakey’s V-League Season 6 first conference but the image was too small you wouldn’t be able to read the text, lol. San Sebastian is in the quarterfinals of course and is heavily expected to go all the way to the finals. Their next game will be against the Adamson University (May 26, 4pm, San Juan Arena).

Taxes on books

Filed under News + Rant + current events

I love books. No, I LOOOOVE books. So what is this shit being proposed by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to tax imported books (and the Department of Finance trying to justify it)? This is one of the most preposterous, unthinkable, and stupid propositions that I have ever heard from a government agency. A government agency for chrissake! In a nation where pushing a reading culture among its citizens is a struggle, imposing taxes on books is the last thing you’d want to do since it limits people from access. And imported books aren’t actually cheap to begin with.

Has logic completely gone astray from the BOC? Even a 10-year-old can see the grim implications of their proposal. How could this country progress if we’re being run by people dense enough to make drastic decisions and not foresee its consequences?
